Fighting Urban Poverty One Girl at a Time
Shining Hope for Communities (SHOFCO) is a non-profit organization based in the urban slums of Nairobi, Kenya providing critical services, community advocacy platforms, and education and leadership development for women and girls. SHOFCO serves more than 350,000 urban slum dwellers in 10 slums across three cities in Kenya, including Kibera – Africa’s largest slum. The grassroots movement is committed to catalyzing large-scale transformation that builds solutions to urban poverty and brings hope to urban communities.
TAF is proud to support and uplift SHOFCO’s inspiring mission. As a studio, we led the organization’s rebrand and developed a fully-responsive content-managed website. Additionally, we sent our photographer to spend three weeks at the Kibera School for Girls creating a library of photographs to position SHOFCO as a leader in the nonprofit sector.
This identity design project was awarded Best in Show at the 2015 Ad Club of Western Massachusetts Creative Awards.
Scope of Work
The stencil logo mark and brush typography were inspired by the hand-painted signs and imagery found on walls throughout Kibera.
TAF photographer Candace Hope travelled to Nairobi and spent three weeks photographing the school and its community.
TAF designed and developed a fully-responsive content-managed website for SHOFCO to use as a primary fundraising tool.
We created icons that represent SHOFCO’s multiple initiatives.
